First thing that hit me was how dark it was. My mother always told me off for enjoying video games at nighttime you see. “It will injury your eyes boy!” she applied to state, “You will need cups when you’re old!” She is correct but I’d never tell her of it. I pondered the alternative, office-type squint-inducing fluorescent light and determined the organisers realized best.
Proper by the entrance are the indie activities which I’d to applaud. Tell a player the new COD or FF is lurking about somewhere and they’ll quest it out, two time queue and all, but they’re much more hesitant to seek out these indie gems. The standard of the indie hyperspin games on show was rather phenomenal and it will even reassuring to note that the retro gaming character remains solid (watch out for functions on Conga Master and Modsork soon).
It’s truly provided me something to strive for with my current project. Trained with was a Saturday afternoon there was however ample space to go about and conversation to the designers while having a gander at their wares. Indie-only activities are most likely still an improved bet for seeking them out but since this was a small percentage of a massive pie you can’t complain.
A ginormous banner for Ultimate Fantasy XV produced me hurtling back again to reality. We were inside now. The queues were extended (apparently much shorter on a Thursday or Friday when the kids have reached school) but I did so control to acquire a glimpse of said new COD, new Gears of War and also new FIFA and guess what happens? I hardly felt a thing.
I don’t know who to blame for my complete insufficient attachment to current generation gaming. I really could blame Sony but then I’d have to ignore my passion for the PS1 and PS2. I really could blame Microsoft whilst also ignoring the 360 lay within my bedroom. But I’ll pick at fault the portion inside of me that will not spend to a game and my do these games require that (FIFA17 apart). The line between video games and movies has become noticeably blurred (this is that which you wanted Nintendo!) and I’m uncertain I prefer it. Provide me three keys and a spiky orange hedgehog and I am happy.
Which delivers me nicely to the hallowed Retro Gaming Corner, a lot bigger than I’d thought (a pleasant surprise). Atari 7800s, Range ZXs, SNES, Super Drives, Master Techniques in terms of the attention can see. That’s a slight exaggeration but my were there plenty of them and all with cathode ray tubes to boot. Probably it had been the heat from most of the CRTs, maybe it was the beginning of some kind of bug but I virtually couldn’t stop sweating. But through the work my eyes might make out the various types of said orange hedgehog, manic miners, an under-fire from a lot of boxes plumber and all was well. What happy me more were the swarms of young technology people experiencing these gems.
In some sort of where you’ve significantly more than six buttons to perfect, the two/three button world must certanly be a doddle. The games were also split by style – the mild gun games in one place (still much better than anything Kinect as to supply IMO), the “newer” beat activities in another, platformers, photographers etc…
