Good morning, internets!
(When I say "morning", I'm using the term loosely, since I haven't been to bed yet.)
JenBun and I had a lovely time at the Twilight premiere. I know many of you will be seeing the movie in the days to come, so fear not: I'm not going to talk about the actual film SPECIFICS, but more just our experience in general.
So, I was a little afraid that we would be a) the oldest people there b) the dorkiest people there c) forced to beat down some thirteen-year-olds or d) all of the above.
(I was ready! No little whippersnapper was going to cut ME in line!)
(Saying "whippersnapper" does nothing for the attempted preservation of my youth, I just realized.)
We arrived at the theatre TWO HOURS early, and took our place in the already growing throng of people waiting to get in. TWO HOURS. (See above mentioned: item b) the dorkiest people there.)
After standing in line for about 10 minutes, I realized that not only were we BY FAR less dorky than most of the crowd, we were also right in the middle of the age bracket. There were people years younger and YEARS older than us, all waiting for a glimpse of the big-screen version of Edward Cullen.
When they finally let us in, it was a mad dash for the good seats, but luckily they had multiple screens reserved for the showing, so after securing our spots, we got up to scope out the rest of the Twilighters.
And let me tell you, hilarity ensued.
(Seriously. There are some WEIRD-ASS people in the world. And apparently, they're all fans of Twilight.)
JenBun and I had our fabulous sweatshirts, one-of-a-kind and designed by none other than ME, and some of our other friends were also sporting Twilight-themed shirts, but our get-ups were no match for the SMALL CHILDREN dressed as potential child brides for Edward Cullen.
At least, that's what I'm guessing their costumes were.
CHILDREN IN WEDDING DRESSES.
What other explanation is there? You're seeing vampire love story film, you're dressed in an old fashioned wedding dress, and you're nine years old.
Anyone?
Of course, there were also the requisite goths, and the wanna-be goths, and the chicks that think it's a good idea to go to movies dressed like gothy-hookers, and the boys who date the gothy-hookers but look like bored surfers, and the guys wearing lip rings and eyeliner, and the giggling teenage girls wearing skinny jeans and Uggs.
And the CHILD BRIDES.
(I can't get over it. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen.)
There were definite perks to attending the premiere: we got Twilight bracelets and a mini poster (which is IMMEDIATELY going up in my hair color locker at work, clearly), and it's always fun to see a movie with a bunch of people who are also all caught up in the hype.
(Except the child brides. Those were just freaky.)
As far as the actual movie goes, I'll just say this: I loved parts of it. I enjoyed all of it. It's worth seeing, especially if you love the books.
(And who am I kidding? I'll be buying the DVD.)
(I wonder if Hubs would be opposed to our guest room doubling as a Twilight paraphernalia holding-ground?)
Anyhoodle, it's time for this girl to get some sleep. Thankfully I don't have to work until later in the afternoon. Morning is not a good look for me.
Happy Twilight day, everyone!
Uhm...so, it would be weird if I wore my Team Edward sweatshirt to bed, right?

Ugh, totally jealous!!!! :-)
I went with a bunch of my friends, and alternatively enjoyed the movie and enjoyed my friends' reactions.
The girlfriend actually squealed during the glitter scene.
I would have made more jokes about it had she not shut me up early just by mentioning: "Rosalie Hale."
Duly noted.
Dressing children up as bride offerings for a vampire? Perhaps taking it too far. PERHAPS.
you must have had a blast..woulda been cool to be there. so i have one question? very important mind you...would you advise a fellow twilighter, a purest when it come to this kinda stuff, advice them to go see it? i would be so disappointed if it didn't live up to the book. :)

Whoaaa woman!! what did you do to learn to write that impressively!!
Awesome blog !!
PLease gimme some , any pointers ! :)
Now i'm really interested in reading the book. I got the first three books for my niece in January. Come to find out she had already read them but wanted her own copies. Now i see y.
I went to. Pretty much loved it. Also have not gone to sleep yet. Haha. There were some crazy people at our theater, but no child brides... Creepy. I live in a smaller area, but still, 700 people came to the movie and it was showing on 4 screens, all sold out. It was great fun.
I'll probably see it again. And buying it is definitely in the cards for me.
Glad you enjoyed it!
=]
P.S. Did the meadow scene bother you too?
Haha, I've heard so much hype over the book and all... I just might become a fan pretty soon too. I'll be the guy wearing the lip ring, surfer tshirt, goth black hair, skinny jeans, and uggs. But no wedding gown. That IS creepy.
Glad to hear you had a good time!
Like I said yesterday, there is this energy, this special kinda buzz at midnight premieres.
I'm a mom so getting to them isn't very easy, but I try to when I can. It makes me giggle like a little school girl waiting for the film to start as the maddening hype builds up in the theater the closer it gets to 12!
Yay! Sounds fun! I'll have to check it out... and keep an eye out for child brides. Creepy.
What a relief! I was afraid that the movie would be a dud compare to the books. I like the soundtrack - Paramore's song is the best, I think...
And of course, the it wouldn't be weired to wear the sweat if you wore it..
Can't wait to see it!!!
I'm rolling over here at your explanation of the crowd. I can seriously picture everyone that you described. That sounds like the crowd at my local mall. (minus the child brides, of course)
Yes, that would be weird, but hilarious
Didn't the little girl in Interview with a Vampire dress like that? Maybe that's what they were going for, I can't imagine these people thinking child brides???? Crazy!!! I'm so jealous of you! Can't wait to see it!
I can't wait to see it!!
Child Brides? WTF? Some parents are weird!
CHILD BRIDES? That's so Dracula!
I am sooo jealous! I can't wait to see the movie.
And Yes..whippersnapper had me laughing pretty hard!
As for the child brides...WTF?
Yay! I can't wait to see it. And child brides? That is very disturbing on so many levels. I mean, they clearly didn't dress themselves right?
Ooooo! I'm so excited! Thanks for reviewing sans spoilers.
ps - it's only weird if you dream of Jacob.
Wasn't the movie amazing!?!? And the atmosphere was so fun! I'm with you, there were some very interesting people there. We got to the movie theater 3 hours early because when we went to get our tickets (that we pre-bought) there were already ppl waiting (at 8 o' clock). I heard one of the workers say that ppl had been waiting 5 hours already (this was at 9 o' clock!). There are some dedicated ppl out there :) However, I saw no child brides...that probably would have been a little creepy to see.
p.s.- I love your blog. It is absolutely fantastic and keeps me in stitches most the time :)
I'm going to see it tonight, I've been worried if it will be like the book or not.
Thanks for sharing what the midnight viewing was like for those of us who couldn't hack staying up that late!
I don't think it would be weird if you wore it to bed, however if you wore it every single day to work, bed, parties, and the shower, then yes, slightly weird.
just wear the sweatshirt and SAY you didn't. We'd never know!.. now Hubs, on the other hand...
My friend and I sat for two hours waiting for one of seven screens that were showing the midnight release. Despite my worries that it would be the cheesiest movie event ever, I actually liked all the actors and was totally smiling through the whole film. And Edward was so much better than I expected.
Glad to hear you enjoyed Twilight! I wonder what was up with the child brides... holy awkward. I've been reading your blog for a little while and it's brillant.
lol child brides = freaky for sure! I happen to be at a chapters bookstore for the book release and I saw my fair share of those goth hookers... They had them all do the thriller dance it was so odd... but looking forward to seeing the movie..
ps- cute sweatshirts
wow
i did not even hear about the whole Twilight movie phenom until this past monday
glad u had fun
enjoy your weekend
CHILD BRIDES!!! I was laughing through the WHOLE post! Are they even allowed in?? I thought the movie was PG-13. I heard the movie got rated 1/5 by the movie critics. I LOVE your sweatshirts that you designed and I am going to see Twilight TONIGHT!!! Thank god you said it was worthwhile, especially after hearing the 1/5 rating this morning. But come on... CHILD BRIDES!! hahahah. There really ARE weirdoes in this world. LOVE YOUR BLOG AND I POPPED THIS POSTS COMMENT CHERRY.
Haha wearing a sweatshirt to bed is not even close to as weird as child brides so I think you're good!
love it! your recap makes me feel like i went to see it with my girlfriends and your comments were ours!
I can't wait to see it!
Do you also heart "True Blood?"
Not at all :)
You're the first person I've heard say it was good! I want to see it but I haven't read the books, mostly because I have 30 other books to read before I think about buying more
haha! that is so funny about the child brides!!!
Childbrides. I'm still trying to compute. These children have parents. Parents who let them out in pub-lik as brides on a day other than halloween. wrong. WRONG!
Makes for good blogging though...
SDGKjhsdglkhsldkhgmmmmmph
4 hours sleep.
Every night past 4 nights.
No more coherence.
Counter post later.
xo!
Oh my, you are too funny. I am giggling at your hoodies. So I am heading to the midnight show tonight with all the gals in my book club. I haven't read a word of this series and as of yet have no plans to. So in a way, I feel like an outsider observing a very strange cult of women up close. It's like these books have created their own subculture. It will be interesting.
My darling.
I saw you, and you were amazing. The child brides have nothing on you.
If Bella ever gets torn into pieces and burned, it is, as they say, on.
You can bring your sweatshirt.
Kisses!
Edward
If I had a Team Edward sweatshirt, I would wear it to bed, so no, I don't think it would be weird for you to do so :)
I don't get the brides thing. Please figure it out, its killin' me. Glad you liked the movie. I've been a little worried myself!
I can't believe it's central time 1pm and you have no comments. Well, mine is a question to you.
I would love to see the movie, however do you recommend reading the books first? My daughter (18) is a fan and I just haven't read them yet....
Child brides? Are you serious? My. God. what is wrong with people? I can see totally expecting the goth hookers, goth hooker daters, flat out goths, skinny Ugg girls, and the light sprinkling of normal people, but c'mon, child brides? There is just no place for that kind of craziness anywhere... Sometimes there are just no words...
I can relate to you about tiredness, I actually won tickets to go see it last night, so we ventured out, unplanned...
Now I'm disappointed though, there were no child brides in our theater!
Totally jealous and will be heading out to the theatre on Monday night to drool over my darling Edward and James. Yum
Child brides eh? Interesting. And creepy.
If you really want to be weirded out by child brides, come to Utah! Ha! I'm glad you guys had fun. I heard the movie was fab.
Child brides? Ew!
Then again, I can imagine this movie being the pinnacle for people watching. I can't wait to see it. Alas, I will need to wait for a babysitter.
See what happens when you have children? Are you sure you want one? (j/k)
The child bride thing IS creepy. But the creepiest part is that the parents were all part of this...
So just to summarize...you saw child brides did you?!?
you are soooo lucky. I live in Indonesia. I really love Twilight
i'm so so so so so so so jealous! It doesn't come out here till the 11th!
argghh
Child brides to see the movie Twilight? And only nine-years-old? Okay, I was scared before because of the vampires, now I am really scared.
haha nine year olds in wedding dresses. sounds creepy!
You remind me of the thoughts I wish I could communicate properly but can't. I didn't get the child brides, Thank the Lord, but Hub Hub and I stood in line in front of a group of 4 who were arguing whether or not Vampires have nipple rings, or in fact if they have nipples at all. Hub Hub had to hold me, so I wouldn't open my mouth and inform them how stupid they are. I have a hard time not telling people what I think....
Then we had the pleasure of sitting in front of a full class room of friends and the one that sat directly behind me was a big boy who liked to randomly burst in to show tunes. My patience was wearing quite thin.
I just saw it this afternoon. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well it was made. Did you catch the cameo appearance of the surprise guest star?
I can't wait for the next movie!!!

I saw it yesterday and was happy. I didn't love it but I very much enjoyed it, the books will have a dear place in my heart just because you can do so much more with that many pages vs two hours in a movie. They did the best they could with the time that they had! Go them, good job!
Lol..funny post. I don't think the hype will be as bad over here in Australia but I'll be sure to look out for this...CHILD BRIDES!!
I just saw the movie, and though I haven't read the books yet (figured reading romances when your boyfriend is 2 states away isn't smart) I've basically heard the whole story line. So, the movie was good, but the whole time I was thinking...wow, Edward learned that from my boyfriend. Don't believe me? He composes, loves to dance with me, is romantic and is saving everything for me. Yep. Ms Meyers stole her ideas from spying on my bf. :-D
And when I saw it, there were no child brides. Seriously, why didn't you get a picture??
yay i'm so glad you liked it too. i liked it, didn't love it, but definitely enjoyed it.
and the child bride thing is just creepy.
luckily i had no screamers or straight crazies in my screening and it was perfect. and seriously rob pattinson was a perfect edward. so swoon worthy.
Tia, my daughter has been asking about this movie. What do you think is the minimum age in your opinion for a girl to watch this movie. 12? 10? 8? 6? I would really appreciate a real person's feedback. Thanks, Alicia from BLOG SISTERS (http://aboutaliciagrecco.blogspot.com)
So, I just returned from seeing Twilight, and I have to say: AMAZING!
